Job Title: Technical Safety Engineer
Cont/Perm: Permanent
Location: Central London
We have an exciting opportunity with one of the UK’s fastest growing Oil &
Gas operators, to join their Central London team.
This newly created position will be part of the growing HSEQ team, focussing on the North Sea exploration and production projects. As a relatively new Oil & Gas operator, their internal processes are still under development and offers the successful incumbent the opportunity to make their mark on the company and develop processes from the ground up.
Job Specific Requirements
• Provide safety engineering advice across the UK business to ensure that risks to personnel are reduced to a level that is as low as reasonably practicable (ALARP), thereby ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and company policies;
• Act as Technical Authority for the Management of Safety Critical Elements and performance standards.
• Provide input to and in cases facilitate or chair HAZID, HAZOP and SIL studies; provide specialist expertise to asset/project teams in relation to major accident hazards, QRA, safety critical elements and performance standards. Risk Assessment expertise in technical and construction risk assessments is required.
• Leading members of the project group in executing engineering hazard management and formal safety assessment tasks in support of field projects, medium / small engineering odifications and consultancy studies
• Ensure that Safety Cases are prepared, developed and maintained to a consistently high standard and that they remain current and reflect good industry practice; and support/defend them to regulatory bodies. Where appropriate, engage with and support external consultants / contractors to carry out specialist studies, to ensure delivery of quality safety engineering support in all relevant areas;
• As necessary ensure that COMAH requirements are met as required
• Implement with the principles of HSE management issues during Concept, FEED and EPC phases into contract works
• Provide guidance on process safety design aspects of development projects
• Assisting line management and the HSEQ team on E&P safety issues
• When called upon, participate in accident / incident investigation, employing appropriate recognized techniques, to ensure root causes are identified and remedial actions implemented;
• Maintain awareness of and provide advice on relevant new / emerging regulations and support any consultation processes, to ensure Company is well positioned to manage any impact. This applies to activities in the UK, Norway and Algeria but will expand as the business grows.
• Provide advocacy in relation to technical safety improvements and deployment of new tools and techniques, to ensure good engineering practice is maintained and to promote continuous improvement as demanded by the company’s management systems.
• Form part of the UK Emergency Response Team as required by company emergency response procedures
• Prepared to undertake continuous professional development (CPD) via company PEER to PEER relationships or industry awareness to ensure that the business is a leader rather than a follower in adopting and implementing improved safety practices in their developments and subsequent operations
Qualification & Experience
• BSc in an engineering discipline
• MSc in Safety (considered a bonus)
• Familiarity with hazard identification and risk assessment techniques Ability to perform updates for operational safety cases and support/defend them to regulatory bodies
• Proven experience in oil & gas industry Ability to manage technical meetings, liaise/feedback with other disciplines, project management, client and regulatory authorities
• Minimum of 8+ years’ experience in safety engineering in the oil and gas industry
Salary: circa £80,000 (this is potentially flexible, and a package can be built around the right candidate.
